In Grateful Memory

Praying a wonderful Memorial Day today.

Remembering our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, sons, grandsons, and all the women who also have served our country.

Though the context was different, this quote comes to mind:

We are sitting on the shoulders of giants. We see more, and things that are more distant than they did, not because our sight is superior or because we are taller than they were, but because they raise us up, and by their great stature add to ours.” — John of Salisbury

We are able to discuss politics in our armchairs, because they served with their lives.

Our model is Jesus Christ, who came not to be served, but to serve.

Thank You, Jesus, for our spiritual freedom and for eternal life.

Thank You for the lives of those who paid a high price for my freedom.

Thank You for my beautiful country. Though brought to her knees in sin and her light has dimmed, she is still a land of gracious opportunity. Thank you, Jesus, for the many who are flocking to her for hope. May they find their rest in You.

As we follow Habakkuk, remind us, O LORD, of Your mighty acts of mercy and love in our history and in the history of this world, so we can worship You above all.

Happy Memorial Day!
