33-40
33Teach me, LORD, the way of your decrees; that I may follow it to the end. 34Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law; and obey it with all my heart. 35Direct me in the path of your commands; for there I find delight. 36Turn my heart toward your statutes, and not toward selfish gain. 37Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. 38Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. 39Take away the disgrace I dread; for your laws are good. 40How I long for your precepts! In your righteousness preserve my life. (NIV)
PRAYERS: Lord, I need you to breathe into me and open my heart to the way of your laws; if you will do this, I know I can persevere until I see you face to face and know even as I am known by you now. Only you can give me understanding and I ask you for it. Otherwise, how can I obey what I do not understand? How can I love you with my whole heart if you do not train me and give me the desire, focus, and endurance I need to keep your word? With your help, I will not fall away. Position my feet along the path of your Word that leads to you, so that I may worship you without distraction from this world (Phil 2:13), for in your way I find joy.
My heart is wicked; lean my heart toward your truth and keep me from selfish pride that dissuades me from the study and practice of your word. Lord, direct my eyes–keep my senses from indulging my pride, as I am otherwise inclined to do; preserve my life for I am surrendered to you completely. Your word alone shapes my prayer, O Lord; I am your servant asking you for the blessings you have promised in it. My sole desire is your reign in me. I do not fear man’s reproach, but only yours. Keep me lest I be disqualified, for your judgments alone are righteous and they work good in me.
I know that your ways are right; see, I believe! Your grace has done this for me. Now, make my life a testimony to your waysand preserve me, Lord, because you are the only One who can.
