81My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in your word. 82My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, “When will you comfort me?”. 83Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget your decrees. 84How long must your servant wait? When will you punish my persecutors? 85The arrogant dig pits to trap me, contrary to your law. 86All your commands are trustworthy; help me, for I am being persecuted without cause. 87They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts. 88In your unfailing love preserve my life, that I may obey the statutes of your mouth. PRAYERS: Oh, Lord! I am weary with waiting to see your word unfold on my behalf; but I have intentionally placed, and keep, my hope in your word, nevertheless. My eyes fail; I can no longer see well and I drop my gaze; I ask you in the night watches when will your comfort arrive! Though my hope shrivels like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not let the remembrance of your truth disappear from my heart and mind.
Yet how long must I continue to wait? When will the day come when I see the Deceiver punished and his persecutions end? Those who do not live by your law, those full of self-pride, they lay traps for me and wait with sick glee for me to fall in. I am afraid. Yet I say that all your commands are true and worthy of my patience; I rest my trust in You.
Therefore,help me! I am being reviled and harmed without real cause; the real cause is their denial and rage at you. They almost have done me in entirely, but I have not turned from you or your law. I will to stand fast.
So in your unfailing love which I know to be true, preserve my life, that I may indeed stand firm against the rage and harm; and I will remain true to Your Name and I will see Your truth unfold for good.
