129Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. 130The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. 131I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. 132Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. 133Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. 134Redeem me from human oppression, that I may obeye your precepts. 135Make your face shine on your servant and teach me your decrees. 136Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed. (NIV)

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, Your word contains deep mysteries and truths that are too wonderful, too great, to be conceived from any mortal mind; therefore, with great reverence and emptied of self-pride, my soul seeks to know, remember, and follow them.  Even as we approach to unfold the wonder of your law, your wisdom pierces the darkness with light; even the little ones, the simple, receive understanding upon the most rudimentary reading of your Word.

In my deep need, I open my mouth to breathe in your commandments; they are the very breath of life to me!  Turn your mercy toward me in my suffering, for though by my own reason I am without this consolation, I have seen that mercy is your character with those who love your name, and you are my only refuge.

On my own, I cannot keep my way steady and faithful; I need you to move my heart to obedience, according to the promise you have given (Isaiah 26:3-4), and let no sin become my master.  I look to you alone as my Deliverer; therefore, deliver me from my oppressors. I rest my trust in You, and persevere in keeping your commands.

Look upon me with favor as you teach me again and again your law.  My eyes flow rivers of deep sorrow and grief because people, and too often myself, do not keep your law (Psalm 69:9); the suffering this brings to me, to others, and to you weighs my heart.

129 PE.

(RVR)
