105Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. 106I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107I have suffered much; preserve my life, LORD, according to your word. 108Accept, LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. 109Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. 110The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. 111Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. 112My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end. PRAYER: Your Word, Lord, is my only light. It is like a lamp I can hold in front of me so the darkness of wickedness, deceit, suffering, and ignorance in and around me do not totally engulf and eclipse all hope. For there is no other counsel in this dark world that will light my path forward and make my way bright but yours. Your word does not fail me (1 Peter 1:19).
See, I have solemnly committed myself to you knowing that I cannot keep my own vow, but you will help me (2 Cor 3:5; Malachi 3:17). You see my affliction is severe, Lord, for you have allowed it. But your word assures that I will receive life instead of death; therefore, I plead for the spirit-life you have promised.
Accept this gift I give of the sacrifice of praise in faith. Teach me through all that you allow in my life, whether suffering or rest. My life is but a fragile thing before me, yet I remember and place all my assurance in the hope of your sovereign rule.
Yes, the wicked have laid out their temptations and false hopes to trap me, but I don’t divert from your counsel. If all were taken from me, the gift and blessing of your word is all I could ever desire or need. Your word to me is pure joy! Lord, keep drawing my heart to faithfully follow your law, without falter, even to the very end.
