161-168

161 Princes have persecuted me without a cause, but my heart standeth in awe of thy word.  162 I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. 163 I hate and abhor lying; but thy law do I love. 164 Seven times a day I do praise thee because of thy righteous judgments. 165Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend them. 166 LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation,  and done thy commandments. 167 My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly. 168I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies, for all my ways are before thee.

Powerful people, respected in this world and in authority over me–those who should shepherd me–gnash their teeth against me without just cause. This betrayal from unexpected places threatens to shake my resolve and I would react impulsively; but Your word is greater and my heart remains fixed in awe and obedience (Matt 10:28; Isaiah 8:12-13).

Your word brings joy to my heart like one who has won the highest prize on a field of battle; for I am indeed in inner and outer turmoil, but your word must command me. I reject and utterly find repulsive all falsehood and heart-corruption, including my own mortal tendency to react; it is a deadly poison. I immediately then draw near Your Word in deep gratefulness for its truth and choose it above all else.  All day long I find reason to praise and thank you for your righteous counsel, for Your Words bring great peace to those who love them (Phil 4:4-9). Though wars rage, your word steadies me and keeps me from impulses that dishonor you and disqualify me.

Your gracious and eternal salvation, though sometimes clouded in mist to my senses, is always before me as my sure and only goal, O LORD; I rest my hope and faith in You as I follow Your law. My heart rejoices to keep your statutes, for I love them more than life.  I keep your admonition and counsel close to my heart and mind. My life is an open book to you; you know my heart.
