65Thou has dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word.  66Teach me good judgment and knowledge; for I have believed thy command-ments. 67Before I was afflicted I went astray; but now have I kept thy word. 68Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes. 69The proud have forged a lie against me; but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart. 70Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law. 71It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. 72The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

O Lord, in all that I have experienced, whether of grace or of suffering, you have only given that which is beneficial to me, according to the promises you have given in your word.  Your promises bind us together.

As you have brought me to desire and obey your will, give me discretion and knowledge that I would be wise in this obedience.  I am prone to wander, Lord; I get distracted and resistant. I am as a “bullock unaccustomed to the yoke” (Jeremiah 31:18).  Until you mortified my flesh by Sovereign discipline,I took advantage of your grace and kicked against it in my heart; but your discipline has shaped, and still shapes me well. You are good, and you do goodalways; keep me under your discipline by your law. I willingly choose your yoke.(Matthew 11:28-30)

I am often falsely maligned and misunderstood as I walk with a clean heart before you; yet I will not turn from your discipline. I delight in it! The convicted hearts of those against you have no lifeblood for feeling, and they attack; but I find restful peace, and even joy all the more, as your loving discipline shapes me well and for good. I chase after your teaching more than all this world offers. You are life to me.
